HONEY FROM JOKKMOKK, SWEDISH LAPLAND
Our honey is produced in Storbacken, a quiet hamlet situated at the banks of the Lule river in the municipality of Jokkmokk, Swedish Lapland.
With the Arctic Circle only a couple of miles away, the winters are long and harsh, with temperatures down to -40, while summers are short but very intense. In June, for one whole month the sun never sets and nature grows and blossoms in sheer endless daylight. It is this time of the year when our hard working bees start to collect the nectar and honeydew, which later turns into golden honey – Polarhonung.
Our bees live and work in one of Europe’s most sparsely populated areas. In the greater vicinity of our bigård (apiary) in Storbacken there is no farming, no industry and there are no major roads. Hence the area is virtually free from pesticides and pollution, giving rise to a great diversity of meadow blossoms, scrubs, trees and arctic berries such as bilberry, cloudberry, lingonberry and arctic raspberry (dewberry) to name just a few – all of them contributing to the flavour of a unique and rich blend of arctic honey – Polarhonung.

I bought some jars of this honey in Lapland. Just as a great memory of this place. The possibility to take home a smell or an tast of a place like this intrigues me. I like the packaging, too bad I cannot order it from anywhere.
